Stradbroke Island YHA is committed to reducing its environmental footprint and being a responsible community member through a mix of conservation and sustainable practices and services.  Initiatives include:

Energy efficiency:

  • Solar panels generating power for the property funded by the Sustainable Hostels Fund 
  • LED lights throughout the hostel
  • Bike storing and renting available at the property
  • Signage throughout the property promoting water & energy conservation

  • Co-mingled recycling system in use (paper, glass, plastics, aluminum)
  • Reusable water bottles sold through our reception

  • Participation in Earth Hour and Clean Up Australia Day
  • Offer a Dive Master Internships to students who receive professional Dive Master training, accommodation at the hostel and unlimited dives all free of charge over a 3 month period.
  • Fundraising collection point for Volunteer Marine Rescue and Sea Shepard Australia
