  • Albany has a steady tourist trade in the busy summer months and many of our guests find work in the hospitality industry.
  • Because of its rural aspect Albany is close to lots of farms and primary producers who are looking for staff during their busy times to help with harvesting, basic farm work, etc. Most of this work counts towards your second year visa.

Requirements

  • For all jobs you will need to have your own work gear. For farm jobs you need all weather gear and sturdy shoes. Albany’s climate is cool in the mornings and it generally warms up during the day. We recommend to dress in layers so you can take some clothes of if it gets too hot. Food is not provided you will have to bring your own lunch and minimum 2l of water.
  • For hospitality jobs you should be well presented and have a set of black pant and either black or white shirt. Your employer will let you know what work attire is required.
  • There are many op shops in walking distance to the hostel. For not much money you might be able to pick some work clothes from there.

Length of work

  • The length of work depends on the type of job and can range from a few days to a few months. Most employers generally prefer people that can commit for about 3 months as it saves them time and cost in constantly training new people. On average each job lasts about 2-3 months.
